Thank you for considering or choosing Carolina Children’s Counseling. The decision to begin counseling is a courageous and important step, and I am honored to be a part of your family’s wellness journey. I will do everything I can to ensure your family gets professional help in a warm, non judgmental setting. Here’s what to expect through every step of the counseling process:

  • Before Your Visit

When you call or email for an appointment, you will be scheduled as soon as possible. Sometimes there may be a delay before your first appointment. After the initial parent intake session, I will schedule weekly sessions with your child.

To meet client needs, it is the policy of Carolina Children’s Counseling to alternate between after school and during school appointments.

  • When You Arrive

You will be greeted at the office building’s front door upon your arrival. If you arrive before your scheduled appointment time, you may have a seat in the front reception room waiting area and the counselor will be with you shortly.

  • The First Session

Please do not bring your child to the first appointment. After greeting you in the waiting area, I will accompany you to my office. The focus of the first session will be to discuss what brought you into counseling, a history of that issue, and a developmental history of your child. During the first session we will complete intake paperwork. We will also begin to set treatment goals for your child. I will answer any questions that you have about the counseling process.

Please allow 1.5 - 2 hours for the initial parent intake session. The cost of the intake session is $200.

Following Sessions

I will greet your child first and then you at the front door. Your child and I will go upstairs to my office. This is not a good time to let me know all the problems of the past week. However, I will email you a brief questionnaire the day before the counseling session. You can let me know about the successes and difficulties of the past week through this questionnaire. You are welcome to run a quick errand or wait in the reception area during the counseling session. I will bring your child back to you at the front door when our session has ended. Additionally, I will send you a brief email after each session to let you know how the session went.

Parent Partnership

Periodically, I will ask that we meet without your child. These meetings are an opportunity to reevaluate treatment goals and discuss in more depth how your child is doing outside of counseling. We will also discuss effective parenting strategies that you can implement to best meet the needs of your child.
